The Outlook is a monthly community newspaper published by Successful Aging Solutions & Community Consulting (SASCC) dedicated to publishing interesting articles, impactful viewpoints, and uplifting stories within the West Valley. We also offer important resources and community meeting information for those who may not be online. Our distribution includes over 31,000 homes in Saratoga, Los Gatos and surrounding communities. The Outlook is seeking an enthusiastic and well-connected Managing Editor to join our team and participate in all stages of the publication process. As Managing Editor, you will work with the Executive Editor and Production Manager to produce The Outlook. Ultimately, you should be able to deliver exceptional and informative content in alignment with The Outlook’s voice.

Summary
The Managing Editor collaborates with all members of The Outlook team to research, plan, edit and write content for The Outlook.
Areas of Responsibility
- Collaborate with the Executive Editor to research and plan new articles
- Meet with local leaders and attend local event on behalf of The Outlook
- Liaise with contributors to ensure deadlines are met
- Write and edit pieces
- Proofread and factcheck articles
- Suggest possible sources and improvements for pieces
- Choose supporting material, like images and graphics
- Follow current events and developments and suggest original ideas
- Use social media and other tools to draw attention to articles
Qualifications and competencies:
- Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field
- Proven work experience as a journalist
- Strong writing and proofreading skills
- Experience with Google Suite
- Experience with Canva
- Familiarity with social media platforms
- Proficiency in AP Style
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Experience with SEO is a plus
- Experience with Wordpress is a plus
Working Conditions/Physical requirements:
The Managing Editor workload allows for the opportunity to work remotely and on assignment. Must be able to come into the office as necessary, attend meetings, meet with local stakeholders, and attend events to report and write articles. Must be able to work on a computer for an extended period of time.
This position is contingent upon the completion and clearance an FBI/DOJ background check.
