General Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance, the Assistant Vice President, Controller is responsible for the timeliness, accuracy and integrity of all financial data and ensures adequate controls are in place. This position oversees all accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, and regulatory reporting. In addition, the AVP, Controller directs finance staff and ensures all activities are consistent with bank policies and procedures and appropriate laws and regulations, corporate requirements and strategic plans and objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plan, direct and control the bank's accounting and financial reporting systems, supervising all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable and fixed assets.
· Review monthly or quarterly general ledger and internal checking reconciliations completed, ensure reconciliations are completed timely and outstanding items are addressed.
· Ensure that monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports are completed timely and accurately to meet management and regulatory requirements.
· Prepare and/or review all financial reports presented to Board of Directors, ensuring accuracy.
· Prepare and/or review various reports and remittances to applicable municipalities, state and federal government agencies (including unclaimed property, personal property tax returns, etc.).
· Prepare various tax calculations, including monthly tax provisions, quarterly tax estimates and quarterly deferred tax assets.
· Coordinate with senior management and department managers in the preparation of the annual budget.
· Determine adequacy and effectiveness of financial policies and procedures in place supporting management decisions and controls; initiate changes as needed.
· Coordinate internal and external audits throughout the bank.
· Monitor and control the non-interest costs of the bank and ensure compliance through established guidelines.
· Manage various fund positions at correspondent banks, on a daily basis.
· Leading, motivating, and directing activities of department staff ensure training, development and evaluations of performance.
· Assist SVP - Finance with various projects, as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
· CPA certification preferred
· Minimum of 5 years of accounting or auditing experience with financial institution(s)
