JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Plant Pathology & Environmental Microbiology is seeking a Research Technologist to perform a primary role in research of a Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Program grant investigating cultivar resistance to plant diseases, insects and physiological responses. Specific projects will include design, implementation, and analysis of field and greenhouse research evaluating cultivars for resistance to bacterial pathogens and other pests. Visits to growers, fields and analysis of bacterial pathogens those farms are included. In addition to conducting research, the incumbent will also have roles in synthesizing data, drafting reports, organizing team meetings, and preparing scientific manuscripts, and results as well as presenting research results at local and national conferences. A portion of the position will help with the overall management of a modern plant pathology lab. This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding. Education and Experience: This position will be filled as a level 1 and typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both oral and written) skills. Competitive candidates must have significant microbiological experience. Plant pathology and/or field and greenhouse research experience will be viewed positively.
