JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Psychology in the College of the Liberal Arts is seeking a highly organized and team-oriented person to serve as a full-time Human Research Technologist in the Emotion Development Lab at Penn State, directed by Dr. Kristin Buss. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on NIMH and Penn State-funded studies investigating the developmental trajectories of social anxiety development in adolescents with a focus on emotion regulation and physiological mechanisms. This work will take advantage of the University’s broad resources, including the Child Study Center. Key responsibilities of the Human Research Technologist include: Maintaining participant video and questionnaire databases Contacting and scheduling families Coordinating mailings and data collection Overseeing other undergraduate students working on lab projects Aiding in human subject protocols, consent forms, and annual IRB approval Monitoring and reviewing lab equipment and other general lab management duties The Human Research Technologist will join a vibrant and diverse laboratory and developmental training program at our University Park location with occasional required travel to our Harrisburg PACT (Parents and Children Together) office location. Education and Experience: This position will be filled as a level 1, which typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field is preferred. Research and/or professional experience with children is required. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills related to data management and preparation of data for analysis. Experience processing data using relevant software programs (e.g., SPSS, R, Qualtrics, BVA, Mindware) is also highly desired. Applicants should have excellent problem-solving abilities; interpersonal, communication, and attention to detail skills; and an ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
