The Carter Immunology Center at the University of Virginia (UVA) is currently seeking a Lab Tech 2 or Laboratory Specialist to become a participating member of the Sun Lab. The primary purpose of this junior level position is to assist with performing complex experiments, per the direction of Principal Investigator or senior staff, to perform biological, immunological, chemical or physical analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to: Participate in research work involving treatment operations and experiments with animals to including weaning and genotyping mice. Use of immunology assays, including flow cytometry staining and analysis and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Prepare support materials, compare and assist with analyses of data and write reports. Assist with literature reviews. Record accurate information and logs of experimental data Keep informed of new lab techniques. Provide technical and administrative support to research projects. Work with students, post-docs, and other members of the lab to assist in conducting all aspects of experiments. Coordinate research projects and logistics with other lab members. Comply with University, Federal, and State policies and procedures, consulting with junior faculties and Principle Investigator regularly. Provide oversight of laboratory purchasing, equipment, and supplies required for operation of the laboratory. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Qualified candidates must have: Lab and Research Tech 2: Education: Associate's degree. Experience: At least two years of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience. Lab Specialist: Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: Three years of experience. Six years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: · Self-guided and creative in seeking possible solutions to experimental/design challenges. · Strong oral and written communication skills. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
