Overview

The Aquatics Manager (AM) manages the Kroc’s strategy and delivery of the Kroc’s aquatic programs and services. The AM oversees the daily activities, reporting, training, and operations of the Aquatics Center in order to provide a safe, secure, and quality experience for members, guests, clients, and visitors.  Under the leadership of the Center Director, the Aquatics Manager will participate with the Kroc’s overall strategic planning effort, ensuring that aquatic operations align and coordinate with staff promotion, recruitment, retention, communication, and social media work. To further the aquatic strategy and outcomes, the AM will participate in sales and marketing planning and execution.

Responsibilities

Program and Strategy Management

  • Develop and execute comprehensive plans for aquatic programs, including swim lessons, activities, and events that increases capacity of the pools.
  • Develop a robust plan for initiating a swim school.
  • Develop a feedback system to measure the success of aquatic programming.
  • Partner with the Kroc leadership team to develop and execute communications and marketing, including video production and social media communications that highlights Kroc’s Aquatics as premier location in Camden and surrounding areas.

 

Staff Management and Development

  • Ensure that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
  • Ensure Aquatics Center and Aquatics staff maintains current required certifications.
  • Conduct Aquatics staff in-service training and certifications as required.
  • Hold periodic WSI Certification classes ensuring an adequate pool of qualified staff.
  • Work with Center Director to ensure that ongoing training needs are met.
  • Work with HR to develop job descriptions for Aquatics Center and Aquatics staff, perform annual evaluations of staff, and follow hiring and employee onboarding procedures.
  • Work with Program Manager to create programming for Summer Camp.
  • Establish working objectives for volunteers, in conjunction with the Volunteers Manager, to assist in Aquatics Center and Aquatics programs and facilities. Work with the Volunteers Manager on the scheduling and specific duties for volunteers.
  • Lead aquatic department meetings.

 

Safety Management

  • Maintain a safe working environment and report all problems to facilities and management.
  • Ensure that liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure. Review all reports as assigned with the Center Director.
  • Develop and enforce systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies, and equipment related to the Aquatics Center and Aquatics programs and facilities.
  • Regularly keep the Center Director informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
  • Manage/troubleshoot pool operations with USF on a daily/as needed basis.

 

Department Communications & Coordination

  • Maintain clear channels of multi-directional communication with staff, all levels of management, 3rd parties, co-workers, volunteers in Aquatics, program participants, members, etc.
  • Integrate the Aquatics Center and Aquatics areas into the facility, coordinating scheduling with other departments to avoid facility schedule overlaps and to maintain proper facility capacity levels.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar of events and daily schedule of Aquatics Center and Aquatics programs and facilities usage by private and on-site programs.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and leadership team meetings, working to coordinate activities with the other on-site Supervisors/managers/directors.
  • Work closely with the CRDD to promote Aquatics Center and Aquatics programs to maintain good public relations.

 

Swim Leagues/Outside Swim Activities

  • Coordinate with Ops/Comm Manager Swim Team practices and meets.
  • Work with Ops/Comm Manager to schedule outside groups.
  • Transport program participants using a Salvation Army vehicle to league competitions, various SA programs, and/or events, as directed.
  • Serve as a community liaison between the TSA/Camden Kroc Center and community groups, related specifically to Aquatics programs, as directed by the CRDD.

 

Facilities

  • Ensure the aquatic area is professionally neat and tidy.
  • Collaborate with Kroc leaders and US Facilities staff to troubleshoot aquatic maintenance issues.
  • Ensure that the aquatic area is safe and secure, according to best practice and industry standards.
  • Immediately report any safety or security concerns to Kroc leadership, and/or the Kroc’s security forces.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Assist the Center Director as needed with the annual budget preparation, specifically related to the Aquatics Center and Aquatics programs.
  • Perform all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary.
  • Answer questions and give tours to prospective groups and/or individuals.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Certification Requirements

  • Certified Lifeguard, AED, CPR, First Aid - preferably American Red Cross
  • Certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Certified Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
  • Certified Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) preferred
  • Certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT) preferred
  • Lifeguard Management Certification – Online and In-Person
  • Professional certifications EMT or First Responder preferred; CPO preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Management, Business Management or another relevant field, or related business experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of prior work experience as a lifeguard in an aquatic setting with progressive levels of responsibility in developing, planning, and managing aquatic facilities, staff, and programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, problem solving capabilities, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude at all times while interacting with Kroc employees, guests, and the general public.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a passionate desire to contribute to the Salvation Army/Camden Kroc Center’s mission and service to the community.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to provide direction in a clear manner.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and have a familiarity with using general email applications.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
  • Able to work weekends/evening hours as needed and must have willingness and ability to travel.
