Who we are looking for
The Salvation Army Midland Division Shelter located in St. Charles, Missouri, is looking for a part-time 20 hours per week Food Pantry Assistant. This position pays $13.00 per hour.

Job Objective
The Food Pantry Worker will assist the corps officer in arranging for food acquisition, delivery and stocking of food and preparation of food boxes to be provided for our clients. This position will drive The Salvation Army vehicles periodically to obtain food stuff. This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.
Essential Functions

- Review intake form with client(s), obtaining additional information/documentation as required to determine eligibility.
- Search computer database and enter any new clients or changes to existing clients’ data into the computer system.
- Perform the following or monitor volunteers as they perform the following:
- Prepare, move, and carry food boxes/bags for clients based on family size.
- Keep food pantry stocked. This involves moving heavy quantities of food from the storage areas into the food pantry room on a daily basis.
- Remove outdated items from shelves and refrigerators/freezers on a regular basis. Rotate stock so that nothing is held long-term.
- Keep pantry and storerooms neat, clean, and organized. Report any rodent/bug problems to the building maintenance worker.
- Order food from The Central Illinois Foodbank and other sources as needed and coordinate its transportation.
- Arrange for the unloading of food stocks from foodbank or other sources.
- Keep records of food offered, accepted, and rejected from the foodbank and other sources.
- Maintain and report program statistics to the administration office and prepare and submit Food Bank reports and Operation Food Search Reports.
- Responsible for operating the assigned vehicle in a safe manner and making pantry item pickup/deliveries for purchased or donated items.
- The employee shall be knowledgeable of The Salvation Army Fleet Operation Manual and shall abide by it.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned, answering phones, referrals to other agencies, seasonal assistance.
Minimum Qualifications
High school or equivalent diploma and one year experience in an office environment. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Must have a valid Driver’s License and pass TSA MVR check.
Required
- Must be able to communicate with clients in person and by phone.
- Must be able to read and write and enter and retrieve data from a computer data base. Ability to use Word and Excel is a plus.
- Must be a team player, a self-starter and perform well with minimum supervision.
- Must demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Must have an outgoing personality with good communication skills and an ability to work with diverse cultures.
- Good organizational skills required. Commitment to carry out The Salvation Army’s mission is essential.
Physical and Working Conditions
Must be capable of performing the above essential duties to include frequently lifting 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds and frequently moving 50 or more pounds using dolly/cart/truck. Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
