The Quincy Salvation Army Family Store is seeking candidates for a part-time Food Programs Assistant position, working 20 hours/week.
Hours: The Food Programs Assistant hours are Monday-Friday 7:30am-11:30am.
Rate of Pay: $13.00

As a Food Programs Assistant for the Salvation Army, you can expect to:
- Prepare and assist in delivery of food distribution for clients.
- Assist in the delivery/unloading of food donations and/or purchases.
- Assist in the maintenance of stocking, organizing, and cleaning the food pantry and shelter kitchen.
- Label food items with date and contents in accordance with food handling certification standards. Rotate and store food supplies, removing outdated or expired food safely.
- Comply with sanitation guidelines set by the health department. Remove all trash and recyclables. Report any sanitation concerns (rodents, bugs, etc.) to supervisor.
- Assist in recording and tracking all incoming and outgoing food. Ensure accurate counting of food purchases and donations.
- Prepare and serve meals to resident and the public, as necessary.
- Operate Corps vehicles in a safe manner and in compliance with The Salvation Army Fleet Operations Manual.
What are We Looking For?
Education & Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must have or obtain food handling certification within 90 days of hire.
Experience: One (1) year of experience working in social services field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Must be a team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
- Must be service oriented, actively looking for ways to help people.
- Ability to work with and relate well to people.
- Must demonstrate understanding of safe food handling practices.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License to operate Corps Vehicles.
- Must pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and background checks.
About The Salvation Army in Quincy:
The Quincy Area Command serves Adams, Pike and Brown counties in Illinois and Marion, Ralls, Lewis, Shelby, and Monroe counties in Missouri as well as transients who have come to our community and find themselves in a homeless situation. It is the goal of our program to equip our residents with the knowledge and life skills development needed to find employment and suitable, affordable housing that they might become self-sufficient individuals.
The Emergency Shelter has 10 rooms that can accommodate up to 20 people with rooms dedicated to single men and women as well as families. The building also includes our Family Services programs and Food Pantry/Breadline.
- The Salvation Army, as a church, is exempt from participation in federal and state unemployment insurance programs. Upon termination, employees are not eligible for Unemployment Compensation.
