SUMMARY:
Smithers Quality Assessments is a third-party Certification Body, looking to grow our talent of qualified individuals in the quality and certification industry. The role of Lead Auditor is to perform third-party assessment and certification activities in compliance with written procedures in the ISO, Aerospace and Automotive industries. This obligation includes ensuring the certification scheme continuously meets the requirements of current industry standards as appropriate, and that of accreditation or approval criteria. Audits work activities of clients to verify conformance of activities to management system standards.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following - other duties may be assigned

  • Meet competency requirements for technical (IAF) areas or other criteria defined internally by SQA or accreditation documents.
  • Conducts assessments of client facilities to determine their level of conformity with the requirements of the standard (pre-assessments, Stage 1, Stage 2, Surveillance, Special and Re-certification)
  • Report findings verbally and in written format. Writes and submits audit reports to meet Accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain timely communications with office personnel and assigned clients via voice, email, written reports, etc.
  • Must maintain a current schedule of audits in accordance with audit timing requirements and SQA procedures.
  • Submit expense reports, all reports, plans and other critical audit documentation in a timely manner in accordance with SQA procedures.
  • Maintain acquired auditor credentials such as lead auditor certification, aerospace auditor certification, automotive auditor certification and environmental certification while auditing with SQA if gained while employed at SQA.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and other mandatory training sessions as scheduled by SQA management.
  • Participate in sales activities upon request.
  • Work with staff to enhance effectiveness and efficiencies of work processes.
  • Enter data in appropriate databases or systems as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
When assigned as Audit Team Leader, this position will retain oversight responsibilities for the team personnel during the audit, in accordance with appropriate standards requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • For QMS, EMS or OHSMS auditors, 5 years of work experience with a minimum of 2 out of those 5 years in quality, environmental or occupational health & safety roles. Automotive and Aerospace sector auditors beyond this will be according to SQA qualification and competence requirements, per IATF Rules, and in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021, AS9104/3 and AS9104/1.
  • Auditor competency-based certificates should be demonstrated for support of auditor knowledge.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical reports, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to speak effectively before clients, managers and employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Internet software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
