Sports Emergency Medical Specialist (Full-time/Part-time)
$20.00/hr – $27.00/hr
Join The St. James as a Sports Emergency Medical Specialist at our 450,000 sq. ft. Flagship Sports & Wellness complex. In this role, you'll be a key member of our award-winning Safety & Rescue Department, tasked with responding to emergencies, delivering essential care like wound treatment and CPR, and ensuring the safety of athletes and guests during sporting events and tournaments. You will also serve as an instructor and mentor, providing training and guidance to junior staff and lifeguards to enhance their emergency response skills. This role offers an exciting opportunity for those who are passionate about fitness, safety, continuous learning, and thrive in dynamic environments.

Essential Duties:
  • Respond to various safety and security related emergencies when dispatched
  • Provide patient assessments, emergency care, and guidance on further treatment
  • Transfer patients to municipal medical units or emergency medical transports services
  • Document incidents/accidents, including actions taken and/or care provided
  • Provide mentorship and instruction to junior staff and lifeguards
  • Participate in on-going skills training and mandatory in-service events
  • Maintain physical fitness at “response ready” levels
  • Work evening, weekend, and holiday hours as necessary
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated stewardship and empathy
  • Skilled in methodical delivery of emergency medical care
  • Demonstrated experience as role model and/or team leader
  • Ability to react quickly and provide direction during emergencies
  • Willingness to learn and develop

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), or Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B) required
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer required
  • Current Virginia EMT-Basic certification preferred
  • Current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred
  • Three (3) months patient care experience preferred
