- Annual Salary Range: $31,720 - $37,440 Per Year
- Hourly Pay Range: $15.25 – $18.00 Per Hour

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
The AFI program works to ensure that the welfare of pet animal facilities in Kansas are within standards of the Kansas Pet Animal Act. This is accomplished by performing timely compliance inspections, investigations of complaints, and providing public outreach and education.
This position is homebased and assigned a state vehicle used for official state business. Each day the candidate will travel to facilities in their assigned territory to perform routine and complaint inspections. Significant driving with occasional overnight travel will be required.
ROUTINE INSPECTIONS - The primary objective of all inspections is to assure compliance with the Kansas Pet Animal Act. Authority includes the formal documentation of compliance and non-compliance plus monitoring corrective action. A primary part of the inspection is the development of cooperative relationships that enables the inspector to work with facility personnel to assure quality care of the animals.
COMPLAINTS –Investigations are performed upon receipt of complaints that come into the Manhattan office on licensed and unlicensed facilities to verify compliance of the Kansas Pet Animal Act.
OTHER – Detailed report writing and documentation is required. May testify at administrative hearings and perform a limited amount of public speaking.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or Post High School degree. Bachelor degree in agriculture or any other related field of study preferred.
- Prefer three years of experience in any agricultural inspection related field that demonstrates the acquisition of knowledge, ability and skill required to fulfill the job duties.
- Experience handling of small animals and livestock is preferred.
- Ability to use computer software, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication skills including public speaking, thorough documentation of inspections and ability to provide educational outreach.
- Valid driver’s license required.
