Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for fulfilling the JVSG duties under the Wagner-Peyser Act. This position specializes in customer’s professional growth by implementing and monitoring a targeted employment plan. In addition, this position assists customers with available resources and/or programs specific to their needs. Daily environment includes continuous contact with the public and requires a valid driver’s license or ability to travel as needed to conduct outreach and case management with veterans. Overnight travel will be required.
The position is located at the Wyandotte County Workforce Center.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Deliver comprehensive case management to veterans with multiple, significant barriers to employment.
Maintain comprehensive documentation including detailed customer notes, service history and Individual Employment Plans in the KANSASWORKS customer management system.
Conduct outreach to locate veterans who could benefit from individualized career services and market these services to potential customers at locations including homeless shelters and other service providers.
Connect veterans to community resources for services such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, or financial assistance.
Collaborate with workforce and veteran services partners in an integrated service-delivery model to assist veterans with career guidance including résumés, interviewing skills, labor market information and job retention skills
Maintain close contact with clients during job readiness preparation and upon job placement to resolve problems and evaluate placement adequacy.
Staff job fairs and other community events.
Qualifications:
Education: High School or GED
Licensing & Certification:
Minimum Qualifications:
Six (6) months experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the Workforce Center (e.g. career counseling, job placement, recruitment, assessment and deployment of staff) or similar related experience
Twenty-four (24) credit hours of course work at the post-secondary level may be substituted for experience
High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree, with one (1) year related work experience
One year of marketing or sales experience, private sector hiring practices, presentation development and delivery to diverse population and group sizes ranging from large to one on one
Certification by National Veterans’ Training Institute a plus; however, new employees are mandated to complete this training within 18 months of hire
Knowledge of veterans’ employment issues and related employment strategies
Bilingual a plus but not required
