Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary: The VIN Inspector position is an entry level position that works closely with fellow employees receiving constant on-the-job training to gain knowledge and experience. Uniforms are worn for this position.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Conduct investigations, inspections, and other activities related to the MVE program in accordance with the law and Patrol policies. Examine and confirm the identity of vehicles previously titled in a foreign state or country when applicant desires to obtain Kansas title/registration. Check titles and other VIN related documents for accuracy, authenticity, and evidence of alterations. Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service to the public. Detect evidence of tampering of vehicle identification numbers and odometer fraud, titling and/or registration law violations, and other fraud associated with vehicles. Notify dispatch when a person, vehicle and/or component part are determined to be wanted or stolen. Maintain complete and accurate fiscal records of all transactions. Constant contact with the public and auto dealer official. Must be able to legally drive KHP vehicles for job related duties. Regular, reliable, dependable, performance is an essential function.

Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver’s License.
Minimum Requirements: Must have the ability to see details up close and at a distance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and general public; communicate effectively with internal and external customers both orally and in writing. Able to perform basic mathematical calculations. Incumbent is required to work in all types of weather. Incumbent must be able to bend, stretch, twist, reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
Preferred Qualifications: Possess customer service, and basic computer skills. One year of experience in inspecting vehicle identification numbers, and examining vehicle titles/ownership documents, and registration documents.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must submit to and pass a background investigation. Must be able to bend. stretch, twist, reach with body, arms and/or legs. Must have the ability to see details up close and at a distance.
