ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This teacher will be responsible for supervision of students attending Summit School’s Afterschool Program. Students range from 3-year-olds to 5th Graders. Classroom management and lesson development are essential. Engaging and interacting with students is at the core of what we do. Depending on the hours of employment, this teacher may be required to create and lead a thematic lesson Monday-Friday for a small group of students. All Afterschool teachers work with staff children on Summit’s Conference Days, Professional Development Days and Opening and Closing of School Workweeks. This person will be open to learning and take part in Professional Development opportunities. We desire a person who has confidence in dealing with changeable and challenging situations. Communication and collaboration with the other Afterschool teachers and the Director of Afterschool are important responsibilities.
SUMMIT'S AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM
The Summit Afterschool Program provides a safe and caring environment that flows from the academic day with a dedicated staff that inspires and engages the whole child, meets the needs of parents and reflects the values of Summit School. Summit Afterschool has a carefully designed schedule that gives students plenty of time to create, play, move and learn. Experienced staff members supervise all programs and diligently oversee the safety and well being of each child. Students have the chance to experience school with a little less structure and enjoy an extra dose of hands-on indoor/outdoor activities. There is built-in homework time for older students and opportunities for each child to explore and develop his or her own interests. Parents can choose from a variety of program options to create the ideal schedule.
DUTIES:
- Supervising children

Reporting notable happenings to the Director

Being present and engaging with students

Create and teach activity lessons (depending on employment hours)

Organize outdoor and indoor play

Learning, displaying the principles of progressive education

Assist with homework time

Serve snack, read stories and play games with students

Work on PDD, Opening and Closing of School Workweeks and Conference Days

This job will require a high degree of walking, bending, and possibly running. Lifting or moving small pieces of equipment will be necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods
Experience working with and affinity for children
