Job Description

I.             POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides direct supervision of the route drivers that are assigned to the delivery location to include running routes when needed. Ensures that all delivery procedures are maintained and route balancing is done to maintain route efficiency.                

II.            POSITION EXPECTATIONS

  • Manages all training needs for drivers and new hires.
  • Monitors and creates a customer driven environment through driver ride along program.
  • Administers and maintains drivers’ route guides for future reference.
  • Capable of running a delivery route when needed due to volume or staff shortage.
  • Involved in coordination of all special handling deliveries. Coordinates bulk deliveries and any time sensitive deliveries. 
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Follows up on vehicle maintenance and inspections according to federal, state and company guidelines.
  • Monitors GEO Tab statistics for driver behavior and maintains safety compliance standards.
  • Participates in accident and incident reviews. Follow up to conduct accident / incident investigations. Takes proactive approach to correcting employee behavior to prevent further occurrences.
  • Monitors and maintains dress code with staff to improve company image.
  • Conducts driver meetings and communicates with staff on day to day business changes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 
  • Maintains a safe and clean vehicle and working environment by complying with policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Meets company standards for attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

III.           SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for providing effective leadership while fostering a positive team environment and providing overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of organizational unit, department and/or functional area. 
  • Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work, recognizing, rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Makes effective decisions based on the company standards and operating procedure.
  • Reviews all statistical performance metrics and initiates proactive solutions to meet the objectives.
  • Ability to motivate staff and monitor performance standards for the delivery team.   
  • Plans and sets goals to improve productivity and efficiency of staff.
  • Process invoices for payment; monitor fuel and vehicle repair spending, and ways to reduce cost by quarterly analysis.
  • Conducts performance reviews and handles payroll guidelines.       

IV.          MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education, Certifications and /or Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record. CDL credentials if needed for the types of vehicles under supervision.
  • High School Diploma is preferred, but not required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of delivery supervision is preferred, but not required.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrates the ability to supervise and lead employees.
  • Ability to use and supervise the technology applications used for the delivery process.
  • Can effectively analyze statistical reporting information on delivery and safety productivity.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of the small package delivery in a commercial environment, procedures and truck maintenance.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; able to exchange information with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow direction.
  • Ability to use basic warehouse tools and equipment.
  • Be able to prioritize duties to meet daily company standards.
  • Focused on detail oriented tasks.
  • Able work independently and/or collaboratively within a team – willing to roll up your sleeves and help the team get work done.
  • Manage and organize time to meet objectives and deadlines.

V.            PHYSICAL DEMANDS                                

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be required to do the following:

  • Ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps.
  • Perform activities such as balance, bend/stoop, crouch, kneel, push/pull, reach, squat.
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 2,000 pounds in all directions using proper lifting technique and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 100lbs unassisted.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Operating motor vehicles or standard warehouse material handling equipment.

VI.          WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works in a fast-paced, noisy, non-temperature controlled environment, varying between internal warehouse environments, delivery vehicles, outdoors, and internal/external customer locations.
