Description
The Texas Zoo is a zoological institution located in Victoria, Texas and serves the surrounding community as a leader in conservation education. Duties include, but are not limited to, daily care and feeding of assigned animals in collection, maintenance of animal exhibits and night-houses, behavioral observations, record keeping, animal enrichment and training, assisting veterinary staff, and public presentations. Applicants must have reliable transportation and the ability to work long hours in all weather conditions, as well as the ability to lift 50lbs. Must be willing/available to work weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Assess animals daily to ensure they are properly cared for and secured.
- Observe animal behavior, report abnormal behavior
- Prepare food for and feed assigned animals according to approved diet plans.
- Clean and disinfect assigned animal and exhibit areas.
- Support husbandry training in assigned animals
- Follow treatment plans and preventive health programs as prescribed by Zoo Veterinarian
- Identify and communicate safety concerns to management in a timely manner.
- Participate in the capture and restraint of animals as directed by management.
- Implement animal care procedures and policies, including record keeping.
- Maintain supply inventories.
- Assist with the physical transfer of animals.
- Support special animal care activities such as physical examinations, minor exhibit repairs and modifications, and major exhibit maintenance projects.
- Interact with guests and respond to their questions in an informative, helpful manner

Pay: $9.50 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:
- Victoria, TX 77901: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
- Animal care: 2 years (Preferred)
