Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
Job Summary: The principal function of the Project Manager is to oversee construction/renovation projects from initial PIR to one-year inspection; to review all project information for accuracy and completeness; and to assist in other duties as assigned.
Additional Department Summary: The Project Manager provides management services as the owners’ representation for specific projects and support for items such as programming, design status and reviews, schedule oversight, financial standing and quality performance of construction team for projects as assigned. Provides support during the initial programming and design stages to maintain project scope and maintain open communications with the end user. Ensures proper project controls are in place to support a successful project outcome. Supports Deans, Directors, Department Heads, and other groups on developing program goals and requirements and provides support for recurring programs such as annual paving programs, annual student residence programs, etc. Works with Internal Partners, Consultants, Architects, Engineers, General/Prime Contractors and Subcontractors and other agencies to support their efforts in achieving the goals of each project. Helps facilitate the submission of a Project per Board Rule 415. Provides management with general reporting information, ensures State Bid Laws are followed and strives to continuously improve the construction operations. Coordinates project information with Field Coordinators to ensure project is constructed according to contract documents.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 4 - 8 years of experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to carry out the physical requirements of the job which may include climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding and work at heights above thirty (30) feet on a weekly basis.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Must have a thorough knowledge of general contract and construction administration principles, policies and procedures. The ability to coordinate, manage, and lead multiple individuals/groups/tasks. Be able to understand, review, and create budgets for all types/sizes of projects. The ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language. An understanding of project plans, specifications and other documents. Understand University Board Procedures, State Bid Laws for capital projects and small construction projects. Proficient with personal computers to include word processing, spreadsheets, and email applications.
Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Science, Business or related field and at least four (4) years of professional experience in the construction, engineering/technical, or management field.
