Job Description
Join UChicago Medicine, as an Endoscopy Technician in our GI Procedures Department.
The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for assisting in the collection of data for an objective assessment to identify the patient’s needs, problems, concerns or human responses. The Endoscopy Technician assists the M.D. as well as the RN (if applicable) in pre-op, intra procedure, and post-op. The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for assisting in procedure set-up, documentation of scope usage, pre-cleaning, transport, and other duties as assigned. The technician will also be responsible for procedures done in the inpatient setting and assist assisting in procedure set-up at the patient’s bedside, and appropriate documentation of scope usage, pre-cleaning, transport.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the nursing staff, manager and/or Medical Director of the procedural area within guidelines provided by UCH policies and Procedures.
- Ensure inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
- Perform safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning.
- Prepare suites, rooms, or bedside set-ups according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
- Troubleshoot endoscopic equipment issues or escalate to appropriate party.
- Position or transport patients in accordance with instructions from nursing and medical personnel.
- Assist physicians or registered nurses in the conduct of endoscopic procedures.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- AHA CPR
- One of the following: Surgical Technician, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or experience in an endoscopy procedural area
- Ability to read and write at 9th grade level, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized professional organization (e.g. SGNA, IAHCSMM, CBSPD, etc.)
