The next program director will drive the College of Public Health’s ongoing efforts to prepare the next generation of leaders across existing and emerging models of healthcare, building on the MHA program’s tradition of excellence to enhance its distinction and national renown. The Department of Health Management and Policy and College of Public Health look to the next MHA program director to:
Inspire and foster curricular, educational and pedagogical innovation. Ensure the MHA curriculum reflects the changing landscape and future of healthcare. Reinvigorate teaching and education, including training and tools in analytics, operations and human resource management while emphasizing ethics, morality and sound judgment.
Champion a commitment to student success. Enhance and diversify experiential learning opportunities, including internships, fellowships and field placements, and strengthen career support.
Expand networking opportunities for students. In particular, steward and leverage the MHA program’s robust alumni network.
Model and strengthen a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Prioritize and enhance the diversity of and inclusion among MHA program students and instructors. Incorporate the concepts and values of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum.
Recruit and retain excellent and diverse instructors. Preparing future health care leaders requires professionals and seasoned executives with diverse backgrounds and experiences who are exceptional teachers and committed to student success.
Foster inter-program and interprofessional collaboration. Work across programs, colleges and disciplines, including with other College of Public Health students and with practitioners in related fields such as nursing, pharmacy, social work and medicine.
Promote health management and policy research and scholarship. Emphasize the value of health management and policy research, expanding opportunities to advance a nationally recognized research agenda and to enhance the impact of the College of Public Health.
Serve as an institutional steward. Champion the department and the College of Public Health’s mission, fostering a supportive, collaborative and inclusive environment that prioritizes communication, transparency and relationships.
Education Requirement:
Candidates must have a PhD, DrPH, DHA, DBA, or MD or equivalent degree in a related field or education and qualifications commensurate with an appointment as an Associate or full Professor, tenure track or clinical track in our Department of Health Management and Policy.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a combination of professional experience in healthcare delivery and a record of success in an academic or educational environment.In addition, the ideal candidate will possess or demonstrate the following qualities and qualifications:
Passion for working with students and commitment to their success
Action orientation, high standards of excellence, and drive to achieve results
Interdisciplinary and/or interprofessional focus and a highly collaborative orientation
Demonstrated success promoting and enhancing a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment
Understanding of and/or capacity to support pedagogical excellence and scholarship
Experience addressing inequities, systemic racism or similar challenges in healthcare or education
Engagement or interest in the social and cultural context of health systems and health outcomes
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and listening skills
Superb relationship building and stewardship ability in academic, community and/or industry contexts
Deep professional network among healthcare or related organizations locally and nationally
Relevant prior academic program management or development experience
Demonstrated operational, organizational and management acumen.
Desirable Qualifications:
An advanced degree and record of scholarship is preferred.
