What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Technician position at The University of Iowa?
Perform activities associated with inventory maintenance in dispensing areas including emergency drug supplies. Process drug orders written by physicians on inpatients and outpatients and patient care floorstock orders: read and interpret the order, calculate the dose and/or quantity to dispense, prepare and/or package the correct medication, prepare the label, document activities (dispensing, inventory, inventory reduction, etc.) on appropriate forms. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Generate and/or maintain (includes filing) appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing. Utilize various equipment including electronic tablet counters, computerized label printers, high technology liquid filling devices, typewriter, pharmaceutical packaging and compounding equipment, and pneumatic tube system. Compound sterile products including anti-neoplastic drugs in bulk supplies and single doses. Utilize aseptic technique in horizontal and vertical laminar flow hoods. Package and compound non-sterile products in bulk supplies and single doses. Communicate with the general public, patients and other health care personnel in accordance with established departmental guidelines. Perform tasks as assigned by the pharmacist or technician supervisor. Maintain area orderliness and cleanliness. Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners must be obtained within 30 days from date of hire and maintained for the duration of employment as mandated by Iowa Code. Hourly wage: $10.75.Employment is contingent upon and acceptable outcome of background and credential checks as well as completion of a health evaluation including tuberculin skin tests.
