Assistant to the Chair
Assistant to the Chair will provide high level support to the Chair of the Department of Computational and Systems Biology (CSB). Serve as administrative manager of 3 centers headed by the Chair, initiating and coordinating meetings, events and compiling data for reports. Responsibilities include project management, writing, editorial and administrative support, coordinating pre-award grant applications (e.g., researching RFAs, writing administrative and organizational sections of proposals, editing full proposals for style, grammar, etc.); post-award grant requirements (e.g., compiling and editing scientific materials, searching scientific indexes, collecting and analyzing statistical data on publications, web servers usage, and other scientific activities relevant to the grant aims, writing a comprehensive report conforming to grant guidelines, formatting the reports to include citations and generating libraries of citations to be used for the formatting the references); drafting and editing deliverables for School of Medicine (SOM) assessments (e.g., Faculty Performance Evaluation and other reports; preparation of slides); compiling, analyzing and editing data relevant to the promotion, support or recruitment of students, faculty members and/or institute directors. Facilitates promotion and grant review decision making for the chair by researching and summarizing crucial information for thorough assessment. Serves as the primary communication liaison between CSB Chair and other university departments, as well as external collaborators and associations.
The incumbent will plan, execute and finalize departmental and laboratory projects/activities for approval of the Chair. Redesign, update and maintain content on the Chair’s laboratory and departmental web pages. Performs HR function for the Chairs lab members, appointments, recruitments, promotions and any necessary visa paperwork. This individual will be expected to perform detailed tasks, make independent decisions and demonstrate high standards of professionalism. This position requires proficiency in Microsoft office Suite, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
Bachelor's degree with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in an office environment. Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and HTML and Sharepoint Designer.
