University Press Director - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (22005311)
The University of Pittsburgh Press is seeking a dynamic, outgoing, flexible, detail-oriented team player with publishing experience and a true love of books for the position of Publicity Manager. The Publicity Manager (PM) fills one of the most crucial roles at the Press; the candidate’s efforts will directly impact our sales volume, visibility in the media, and relationships with our authors. The Publicity Manager will be responsible for all aspects of publicizing new book publications. This includes soliciting reviews and features from a variety of print, broadcast, and online media, managing book signings, readings, and author interviews, preparing press releases, advanced review copies (galleys), and submitting books for a variety of literary and academic awards. The PM will interact with a variety of authors and agents, attend conferences, present to local and national media representatives, and manage and attend local events featuring our authors. The successful candidate will be adept at social media use for publicity and have, or be willing to develop, their own social media following with booksellers, the media, and the reading public. They will actively participate in meetings with our marketing team to plan future publications, and must be proactive and flexible in creating and responding to the team’s plan (i.e. corresponding with the media on reviews and awards received, etc.). The successful candidate must be able (after training) to continually update several different Press databases.
4 years of publishing experience required.
