Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including two doses of a 2-dose series or a single dose of a 1-dose series prior to start date. Fully vaccinated is defined as 14 days post series completion date. We are seeking a Histotechnician to work in our new state of the art Pathology laboratory – where you will see plants on every shelf! The Vancouver Clinic Pathology department supports over 8 different clinical sites including two Ambulatory Surgery Centers and two dermatology clinics. New members of our Pathology team will find a supportive and caring environment of healthcare professionals committed to our patients and community. Schedule: Monday thru Friday 5:00am to 1:30pm Processing, embedding, cutting, and staining of tissue specimens though procedural standards that assures the accuracy, timeliness and quality control of results. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES: Verifies sample identification. Processes specimen according to established histology procedure. Embedding tissue samples Microtomy of tissue blocks to produce high quality sections. Routine H&E staining, IHC and special staining procedures Preparation of correct reagents and solutions utilized in procedures. Quality Control and Maintenance: Follows quality control procedures and maintains records. Documents and notifies supervisor of any problems. Cleans and performs daily and/or preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. Documents those tasks and reports repairs to supervisor. Cleans and disinfects work area and properly disposes of bio-hazardous material as needed and at least on a daily basis. Inventories reagents and tool parts to ensure adequate supplies for the work. Notifies supervisor in a timely manner of supply shortages or of expiring reagents. Accurately files paraffin blocks and slides for efficient retrieval. Prints out appropriate work list and reconcile any discrepancies at the beginning and end of day. Performs special technical and other duties as assigned. Adheres to established safety protocols and observes universal precautions in all phases of laboratory testing. Technical Abilities: To be able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. face mask, goggles, and gloves) as needed. Excellent understanding of Histology techniques. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact effectively coworkers, supervisor, lab manager, and pathologists. Ability to work independently while functioning as a team member. Ability to multi-task while focusing on minute details. Excellent follow-through on all tasks required. Critical thinking skills required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be registered or registry eligible as a HT or HTL. Associates degree, or higher, preferred in a chemical or biological science. Must have previous Histology experience Previous experience with computer software is helpful (EPIC, SoftPath, Beaker) Pay Range: $25.80 - $38.71 The above information is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work required in this position.
