About the Role
The Laundry Aide performs tasks in support of laundry operations for facility and resident’s care in accordance with NLCS sanitary and housekeeping procedures. Some responsibilities include:
- Participates in providing high-level laundry services at all times. Works closely with the Environmental Services Team to ensure the highest level of services to resident, visitors and NLCS employees
- Supports laundry services operations according to established standards and procedures; taking into account any special requirements
- Operates washer, dryers, ironers, folding machines, chemical injection equipment and scales according to established procedure
- Uses and maintains laundry equipment, ensuring safe practice. Maintains an adequate supply of washing chemicals and other related supplies as required. Communicates equipment and supply needs and reports safety hazards
- Removes unserviceable linen from the linen system according to established procedure. Receives and records all new linen as required. Take accurate linen inventory according to established procedure
- Collects and packs dirty laundry in appropriate carts for processing according to established procedure.
- Folds and sorts clothing, linens and towels items under the direction of the Laundry Manager
- Participates in ensuring facility laundry schedules are followed
- Ensures sufficient supplies of clean linens are available in the proper storage areas. Ensures linen carts and closets are stocked properly according to established procedure
- Cleans assigned areas according to established Environmental Services Department Procedures
To be successful in this role
- High school graduate or equivalent education is preferred. One year of experience in laundry and/or housekeeping is preferred
- Experience in a Long-Term Care setting preferred
- Familiarity with common Environmental Services equipment and chemical handling practices
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Possess basic math skills
- Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions
- Ability to operate laundry equipment. Able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions
- Ability to communicate at all levels, provide instruction and train other employees as required
- Ability to maintain inventory
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
