What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Lead position at The Word & Brown Companies?

Purpose of Position: Quality Assurance Team Lead will play a primary role in planning, implementing, leading and executing all aspects of Quality and Testing for assigned teams, project and support. The role requires hands-on QA experience, ability to take initiative, assist and evolve our QA processes. The candidate will be able to analyze the systems to determine what to test, the priority of those tests and the best way to test it.  Ensuring the quality, reliability, usability, and performance of applications being developed and delivered to internal and external customers is met. Candidate works collaboratively and as a ‘go to QA practice leader’ with a team of QA resources focused on detecting software defects prior to release.

Essential Functions:

•Develop with QA Manager/Supervisor to evolve formal QA processes, ensuring that the team is using industry-accepted best practices.

• Oversee all aspects of quality assurance is communicated and followed including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices, and developing new tools and processes to ensure quality goals are met.

• Highly organized, detail oriented, extremely responsive and able to prioritize a large number of tasks to ensure timely delivery and execution of commit stories. 

• Experience working with onshore and offshore QA engineers to communicate, distribute work, develop test plans, test cases, execute all testing and manage defect tracking and reporting. 

• Participate in all phases of software development projects to provide a quality perspective

• Become the subject matter expert on all application features and evaluate product specifications for testability

• Devise test strategies to cover requirements, develop high-level test scenarios that implement the strategy, and elaborate scenarios into detailed test cases to ensure that requirements and quality objectives are met  

• Execute tests, write bugs, track, evaluate and report results to development team

• Subject matter expert and participate in process improvement of Quality Assurance and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, methods and systems

• Develop and maintain detailed automated test cases using a scalable test framework

• Support and participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) as needed

• Report time and track tasks

• On-site or remote regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

• Performs other business tasks or functions as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Required Technical Skills:

• Ten plus (10 ) years of hands-on experience related to manual testing, 

• Five plus (5 ) years of project/work level estimates and automated scripting experience 

• Experience in structured testing methodologies

• Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), creation of project/work level estimates based on requirements and test coverage.

• Experience in legacy and web-based application testing including cross-browser and mobile device compatibility

• Experience in all phases of testing including data preparation, test case design, test execution and analysis of test results

• Experience in functional, regression, smoke and performance testing

• Experience in test writing and bug reporting tool- Team Foundation Server (TFS) or similar tool

• Experience working with onshore and offshore QA engineers to develop test plans, test cases, execute all testing and manage defect tracking and reporting

• Experience with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL)  

Preferred Technical Skills:

• Experience with Legacy system

• Experience with console-based systems

• Experience with custom off-the-shelf systems

• Experience with Word & Brown business processes

• Knowledge with implementing and administering the automation framework of Selenium, UFT or similar automation tool

Educational Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related field

• Minimum ten (10) years of experience in functional, regression, smoke, user acceptance and performance testing

• Understanding of health insurance industry is preferred

Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and occasional standing and walking.  Must have adequate hearing for phone work.  Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to communicate effectively in English.  Must be able to use a keyboard and other office equipment.  Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
