POSITION SUMMARY

This position will serve as the face of The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education to promote residency and fellowship as well as opportunities and innovations that support institutional and programmatic expansion and the application of best practices in graduate medical education. The successful candidate will embody the core mission, vision, values, and characteristics that align with the strategic objectives and goals of the organization.


The Director of the Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education Experience is responsible for the development, implementation, and quality improvement for programs and policies to improve resident, fellow, and student wellness and the promotion of a healthy environment for learners. Primarily responsible for the deployment and oversight of learner (resident, fellow, and student) mental health and wellness initiatives including but not limited to new programs and strategic initiatives. Responsible for overseeing: development, implementation and analysis of programs/products, services, strategic opportunities and processes. Provides consultation and conducts mental health and wellness screenings at learner sites based on customized risk assessment and wellness plans.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the Associate Designated Institutional Official (ADIO).


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES and FUNCTIONS

While living and demonstrating our Core Values, the Director of the Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education Experience will:

  • Develop and coordinate new and existing programs, services and resources to support Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) learner health and wellness from recruitment until after graduation.
  • Serve as a knowledge expert to program administration and resident/fellows related to ACGME and Institutional requirements and policies related to GME Wellness as well as LCME requirements and policies related to UME Wellness.
  • Responsible for the compliance with legal and accreditation regulations in regards to mental health and well-being programs and services for GME and UME learners.
  • Responsible for reviewing and evaluating outcomes of new wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all available resources and wellness programs for GME and UME learners.
  • Supports the development of policies, procedures, and other tools designed to promote successful implementation of wellness programs and improvement of the overall educational experience of learners.
  • Recommend and implement change strategies to improve overall GME and UME learner access to resources.
  • Provide information and follow-up regarding expectations to new and current learners quarterly throughout each academic year.
  • Establish learner profiles based on attributes such as preferred learning styles, skills, professional goals, and interests.
  • Establish relationships with non-precepting mental health providers and maintain a list of mental health resources to be made available to all learners.
  • Manage and coordinate mental health referrals.
  • Provide mediation to reported concerns as necessary.
  • Attend educational conferences/seminars as appropriate.
  • Provide continuous innovation as relates to job duties and department.
  • Promote a collaborative, compassionate and solutions-focused environment.
  • Participate in the Wellness & Resiliency Ad-Hoc Committee of the TWCGME Board.
  • Participate in the integration and implementation of the Sanctuary Model for TWCCH & TWCGME.

Additional GME Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the faculty support to the Wellness Chair for the GMEC (Graduate Medical Education Committee) Resident & Fellow Wellness Sub-Committee.
  • Oversee GME Wellness Policy including development, tracking, funding, and approval of events for regional and national programs and sites.
  • Fosters open line of communication with all GME programs.
  • Ensure GME staff, residents, fellows, and physician faculty are notified of changes in policies and procedures and the status of concerns to ensure adequate feedback is provided.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, MarComms, Informational Technology, and other appropriate partners to create effective communication material to ensure GME learners are aware of mental health and wellness resources and to ensure all aspects of training and deployment of new products, technology, services related to wellness programming, are implemented.
  • Acts as the ombudsperson for all accredited residency and fellowship programs.
  • Be an active presence for resident and fellow learners in clinical learning environments to address any concerns and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve issues presented.
  • Provide presentations on various aspects of wellness and professional development to promote a holistic approach to improving the residency/fellowship experience.
  • Be an active presence in the recruitment process through alumni status in order to create a continuum of expectations for each step of the residency/fellowship lifecycle experience.
  • Participate in recruiting a diverse population of residents/fellows and tracking of applicant demographics to increase diversity.
  • Track and maintain a database of residents/fellows after graduation to report on the career outcomes of choosing TWCGME as a residency/fellowship program.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Resident & Fellow Recruitment and the Director of Clinical Recruitment on increasing the retention rate of residents and fellows for employment with TWCCH after graduation to ensure sustainability.
  • Highlight career paths of residents and fellows after residency/fellowship
  • Improve the experience of residents and fellows through the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive and program specific roadmap to success in order to display what sets TWCGME apart as a residency/fellowship program.
  • Collaborate with programmatic Clinical Competency Committees for oversight of progressive resident and fellow performance and improvement toward unsupervised practice.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Director of Health Humanities on various initiatives.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with data entry as needed and help to maintain program organizational files
  • Support administration with ensuring ACGME Sponsoring Institution and Program Requirements are met.
  • Support administration with ensuring LCME requirements are met.
  • Understand institutional policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with GME Administration and Coordinators and the Office of Clerkships as needed
  • Serve on various committees as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master' degree in psychology, counseling, social work, education, student affairs administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in wellness program development, student affairs, and/or education.
  • Experience working and providing intervention to learners lacking basic needs and other barriers to well-being
  • Experience working with a diverse learner population
  • The ability to lead a team and buy in from co-workers.
  • Self-directed work ethic
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and skills in developing and implementing recruiting strategies and successfully sourcing targeted candidates
  • Ability to work reliably in a high-volume, high-demand medical educational environment
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Gmail with advanced skills in technology application
  • Skilled in the use of web advertising, mining websites, email blasts, social media, journal ads, direct mail, telemarketing, networking, referral programs, phone interviews, and search firms
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to travel to various clinical learning environments
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality required
  • Valid PA driver's license
