How will you make an impact?
This Field Application Scientist position can be based remotely, or at one of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s PCA sites such as Bedford, MA, Rockford, IL, or Carlsbad, CA facilities, supporting PCA products/ reagents used for commercial applications such as immunodiagnostics, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, spatial omics and other commercial markets as part of our Global OEM and Licensing Team. This role will primarily support our Commercial Use Customers using products produced at Thermo Fisher Scientific sites as part of their own commercialized products. The successful candidate will actively support our existing and new customers, and mainly provide support to our Global OEM Business Development Managers (BDMs)
What will you do?
As a key member of our Global OEM team, this role will routinely provide support by contributing to multiple aspects of the BDM’s responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Training: provide BDMs with technical assistance and database support
- Travel with BDMs to customer sites to assist with technical presentations and on-site troubleshooting and/or perform such interactions remotely.
- Prepare marketing materials and work with the PCA team to prepare sales materials for the BD
This position will work directly with our customers to understand their requirements and provide potential solutions. Ability to support other internal departments (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Program Management, Product Management, Quality, Technical Services and Operations). It includes preparation and updating of presentations, technical reports, product summaries, protocols, and be able to perform data analysis. It is helpful if the candidate has worked at a commercial company in the field and be able to speak to successes and failures of various approaches that they have experienced personally. Experience with both large and small companies is desirable.
How will you get here?
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry or other related fields and equivalent knowledge and experience is required
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of proven experience in a laboratory setting. Immunoassay and/or flow cytometry R&D experience preferred. Experience working with customers worldwide is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of the theories, practices and procedures of ELISA, point of care and other immunoassay systems, flow cytometry and spatial omics systems is a plus. Prior history using antibodies, fluorescent dyes, chemiluminescent detection reagents, microplates, latex particles and magnetic beads is desired.
- Demonstrated scientific competence and interest in assay development and optimization are critical.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to express scientific results in a clear, concise manner.
- Ability to work as a great teammate, but independently as well.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and balance multiple and changing priorities and projects.
- Familiarity with searching and adding information to a database is a plus.
- Competency using standard data analysis programs including Excel, and Graph Pad Prism is required.
- Ability to quickly master new skills, methods and tools.
- Excellent time management skills.
Job Requirements
Ability to travel nationally and internationally up to 50% of the time.
