This position is within the Fisher BioServices business unit and is capable to process receipt, inventory, storage and shipping of clinical agents or biological specimens. This will include shipments of CA, biological specimens, and supplies to various clinical sites and/or laboratories. These materials are stored at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to below freezing with potentially hazardous properties.
The Operations Technician II will use database applications and standard precautionary procedures to work independently, be self-directed, communicate optimally, and use good judgment when making decisions. Internal or external client interaction occurs with mentorship of expert professionals or technical staff. This position will participate in kit assembly supporting various protocols. Helps to develop and write SOP's, Batch Records, and Standardized Work Instructions. Must have the ability to be compatible with external clients and help to identify customer service solutions. Technician will work with the supervisor and/or lead technician to develop work area metrics that included production and QC functions. This position requires an understanding in implementation that includes a diverse knowledge of technical, operative or administrative methods and practices found within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
Work Schedule:
8AM to 5PM core hours with additional hours as the needed. May be required to work different hours based on the site's needs to meet contract Level of Effort requirements.
How you will impact?
- Prepares samples or clinical agents for pickups, courier deliveries, and shipments.
- Works closely with managers to support customer inquiries, discrepancies, inventory maintenance and database updates.
- This position has frequent travel to various sites based on business need. Will need to travel to other facilities to meet business needs.
- Responsible for using an inventory management system for data entry, sample tracking, and management of samples and/or agents.
- Maintains records of data, reviews data for accuracy, and prepares reports as needed to meet requirements.
- Performs internal specimen consolidation under the mentorship of a Lead Operations Technician. Participates in process improvement activities.
- Receives, handles and inventories specimens of human, animal, and/or plant origin at temperatures from ambient to -196°C, and having possible hazardous properties.
- Receives, handles, and inventories clinical agents at various temperature ranges.
- Pack all clinical agents to specific transit temperature to avoid any possible temperature excursions.
- Assures compliance to cGMP part 210 and 211 and company quality systems.
- Follows SOPs, facility safety guidelines, and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements which may include compliance with cGMP CFR parts 210 and 211 where applicable.

- May prepare protocol kits in accordance with Standard Work Instructions.
- May process biological samples according to client specifications and/or by lab manager.
Required Qualifications:
- Requires High School Diploma
- Requires 4 years’ work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving, inventory management.
- Requires previous repository experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Writing skills
- Knowledge of working in the Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) environment
- IATA Dangerous Goods Training
- Blood Borne Pathogens Training
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Effective communication both verbally and written.
- Ability to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel.
- Use Windows and Microsoft Word and possibly Microsoft Access.
- Experience with methods to handle, process, and store specimens and/or clinical agents using a computerized storage and retrieval system.
- Knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory and quality assurance/control.
- Demonstrated good professional judgment when working with clients.
- Demonstration of strong logic and problem-solving skills.
- Able to function and complete tasks without continual oversight and direction.
- High level of integrity and reliability, as database and inventory management are key aspects of the position. Ability to role model behavior.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature.
- Must use personal protective equipment and carry out to safety protocols.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and push up to 70 lbs.
- Able to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-196°C) for up to 6 hours per day.
- Able to work in walk-in freezers or refrigerators periodically for up to 5 hour per day.
- Able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day
