Location/Division Specific Information
Unity Lab Services provides a single source for integrated lab service, support, and supply management. Our customized service offerings and premier service experts have the flexibility and experience to uniquely address our customer’s laboratory's business needs.
Location: Somerville, MA
Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm
Pay: $20-23/hr, dependent on experience
How do we make an impact?
The position is focused primarily on scientific support services within Unity Lab Services core offerings of dock management, biohazardous waste removal, and other laboratory support services as directed by an authorized representative of the customer, site lead or supervisor.
What will you do?
Perform laboratory services such as biological waste collection, gas tank/LN2 change out, distribution of dry ice to storage locations, stocking inventory, delivering packages, and other laboratory support services.
Operates various Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ handheld devices
Delivers direct shipment orders to end users
Follows well defined procedures as outlined by Best Practices, SOP’s & work instructions. Take direction from Supervisors (and Site Lead) regarding daily duties.
Makes decisions and applies available resources to meet customer requirements, independently.
Communicates with supervisor & site lead any customer issues and/or potential problems.
Promotes personal growth and development by staying abreast of new policies and improvements without the presence of site trainer and management team.
Listens to customer concerns, effectively diffuses dissatisfaction, and quickly identifies course of action with a goal of first call resolution within established turnaround times.
Works efficiently with a diverse cross-functional team.
Accepts Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies.
Access & use Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Intranet and SharePoint document management system.
Represents Thermo Fisher Scientific throughout customer locations, professionally and positively.
Complete projects as assigned by management.

Education
High School Diploma
Experience
Demonstrated customer service, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrates ability to read, write and speak English fluently, using strong communication skills and desire to deliver excellent customer service, including maintaining a professional appearance in all interactions and upholding Thermo Fisher Scientific's values.
Possesses the interpersonal skills to be able to collaborate with various levels of Thermo Fisher personnel & customers.
Operates handheld scanners and performs data entry function.
Demonstrates computer proficiency and possess intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite of software. Uses organizational skills to multi-task and meet due dates as needed.
Works primarily at customer sites, which may require working independently. Work areas may include spaces where chemical-based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc.)
Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets, safety gloves, and safety glasses, steel toe shoes, bump hats and/or safety glasses.
Requires the ability to lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 pounds, including operation and use of pushcarts, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
