Laboratory Technician II

The Laboratory Technician II will perform routine compound processing tasks and quality auditing in the lab supporting the weighing of client compound requests, processing of new compounds & returns, and performing inventory procedures. The Laboratory Technician II will perform routine compound processing tasks and quality auditing in the lab supporting the weighing of client compound requests, processing of new compounds & returns, and performing inventory procedures. Support shipment of chemical compounds. Maintain the laboratory in a clean and neat manner, monitor inventory storage conditions, and assist with disposal of hazardous and/or chemical wastes.
How will you impact?
- Fulfills shipping lists daily including pulling and weighing samples from compound stock containers, completing lists on the local order processing system, labeling samples, and forwarding completed lists for shipment. Performs initial quality audits for shipping lists.
- Performs inventory procedures on incoming compounds, such as new compounds and returns, as well as those stored at the Repository. Processing will include weighing, data entry, labeling, and shelving samples. Performs physical inventories on existing samples as needed including comparison against the database, relabeling, and inventory control.
- Interacts with the Drug Information System (DIS) to perform simple queries, basic updates, generation of labels, generation of printouts, and other tasks as required by supervisors.
- Assists with the shipment of compounds and plates, especially preparing important documentation and labels.
- Accurately maintains the laboratory and compound storage areas to ensure cleanliness and organization. This includes daily cleaning of hoods and surrounding work areas and periodic cleaning of floors and straightening of common work areas.
- Recognize and properly segregate hazardous substances for storage or disposal as necessary and perform labeling of hazardous and chemical waste for disposal.
- Must adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and facility safety guidelines in all tasks. This includes performing initial quality assurance checks on all procedures performed. Provides input to potential changes in SOPs when noting deficiencies in existing procedures.
- Participates in process improvement activities.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Required Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED
- Five years professional experience in laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related scientific field
- Effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
- Ability to prepare reports using Excel; knowledge of Windows and Word.
- Knowledge of chemical hygiene, hazard communication, general laboratory, and quality assurance/control.
- DOT Hazardous Materials shipping training and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations certification to be acquired and/or maintained.
- Ability to take part in minor chemical spill clean-up efforts to include use of full-face respirator.
- May need the ability to acquire and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Ability to maintain role model behavior consistent with company 4I values.
- Demonstration of strong logic and problem‐solving skills.
- Must be self‐driven; able to function with minor strategic direction.
- Must have high level of integrity and reliability, as database and inventory management are key aspects of the position.
- Works in a chemical warehouse facility with strong odor.
- Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, and hazardous materials.
- Must use personal protective equipment to observe safety protocols.
- Must wear nitrile gloves up to 8 hours per day.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work standing up to 8 hours per day.
- Use a computer up to 6 hours per day.
- May need to wear a full-face respirator for 2 hours at a time.
