The Role
The accountant works with the Accounting/Finance group and focuses on monthly tasks, account reconciliations, transaction journal entries, expense report processing and ad hoc projects. This position reports to the Accounting Manager and the job location is in Salt Lake City, Utah.
What You Will Do
- Work with accounting team to meet monthly, quarterly and annual close schedule.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries to be entered into the general ledger
- Reconcile accounts, including sub-ledger and general ledger accounts
- Prepare supporting documents for quarterly and annual audit
- Perform Sox Controls as necessary
- Responsible for fixed assets and related entries and Sox Controls
- Review lease invoices for new additions for ROU leases
- Other duties and special projects as requested by management
- Complete monthly accounting tasks, such as journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany elimination, SOX controls, account and financial statement reviews, etc.
- Ensure the monthly records are wholly accurate, delivered on time per corporate deadlines and are SOX compliant.
- Assist with SEC schedules and tie, including preparation of tie out binder. This resource is a critical resource for our quarter reviews and annual audit with our external auditors.
- Assists in preparing and reviewing various PBC schedule, whether self-created or prepared by others.
- Meet all corporate and locally assigned deadlines.
- Develop business continuity plans, desktop procedures, and checklists.
- Improve existing processes for better quality, efficiency, and compliance.
Key Characteristics, Competencies and Skills
- Working knowledge with General Ledger package and reporting (Sage 300 is a plus)
- Ability to research, understand and apply accounting guidance and regulations (accruals and prepaids)
- Strong competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Organizational and time management skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is an asset
- Ability to meet all assigned deadlines
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees and respectful to all.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills and ability to multi-task
- Thorough self-review of own work and meticulous attention to details.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience working with a large ERP software (Oracle, Peoplesoft, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, etc.)
- Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills. (proficiency with pivot tables, match formulas, v- and h- lookups, etc.)
Knowledge and Experience:
- Effective verbal and written communication (English)
- College degree required - Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Certified Public Accountant is a plus
- Previous work experience in an accounting-finance related field
- Previous work in a public company a plus
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- An individual easy to teach, eager to learn and seeking opportunity for growth and development
- Familiarity with accounting and finance principles and procedures
- Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and other accounting schedules and reports
- Experience with month-end close and delivering against accounting deadlines
- Experience coordinating and working with controllers or accounting staff across multiple countries
