Position: Custodian
Classification: Full-time
Reports to: Principal or other Designee

Position Summary: Provides students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, work, and develop. Performs cleaning and maintenance activities in accordance with established practices and schedules. Works in a safe and orderly manner, following all set policies and protocols as directed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in rooms and hallways according to a prescribed schedule.
• Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to disposal area.
• Scrubs and cleans restroom floors, sanitary fixtures and water fountains; replenish supplies in bathrooms.
• Washes windows inside and outside.
• Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, grounds, neat and clean at all times.
• Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment, requests replenishment as needed,
• Secures building in accordance with security procedures as assigned.
• Safely moves furniture and equipment within building as requested.
• Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed if assigned.
• Follows assigned work schedule.
• Performs other duties as assigned by principal or designee.

Qualifications / Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions of each assigned task in a satisfactory manner. Physical requirements include walking, climbing stairs and/or ladders, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. Must be able to see and read printed instructions, follow verbal instructions, and communicate with coworkers and supervisors. Must bend, stoop, kneel, stretch, reach, grasp and carry tools, supplies and equipment.

Must have knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; previous related experience or training is preferred. The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in work situations is necessary. May occasionally work outside and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, and toxic cleaning solutions. Ability to work independently is required.

Employee is required to wear appropriate footwear, gloves, eyewear and PPE as required. Must maintain proper appearance and hygiene and adhere to the required dress code for the facility.

Work environment: The work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling and lifting. Environment is climate controlled and the noise level is quiet to moderate.
