What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thruway Maintenance Worker position at Thruway Authority?
Thruway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1:
Possession of a valid NYS Commercial Driver License Class B Permit with tank endorsement and no air brake restriction.
Thruway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2:
A. Possession of a Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no air brake restriction, AND, six months of experience operating construction equipment vehicles, AND, twelve months of experience in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork, or other trade related to bridge construction or repair; OR,
B. A valid Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no air brake restriction and eighteen months of experience operating construction equipment and vehicles.
Thruway Maintenance Worker Trainee 3:
A. Possession of a Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no air brake restriction, AND, one year of experience in operating construction equipment and vehicles, AND, eighteen months of experience in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork, or other trade related to bridge construction or repair.
Thruway Maintenance Worker, JOURNEY LEVEL:
Possession of a New York State Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no air brake restriction, AND, one year of experience operating construction equipment and vehicles, AND, two years of experience in carpentry, masonry, ironwork, welding, or other trade related to bridge construction or repair.
Tasks include paving, patching, right-of-way maintenance, underdrain installation, shoulder and slope restoration, crack pouring, drainage structure repair, repair and erection of fences, lighting, guide rails, delineators, and signs, building temporary structures and chutes for removal of debris, fabricating and erecting scaffolding, cribbing, staging and shoring; performing concrete and steel repairs (including removal of concrete with pneumatic tools and sand blasting steel and concrete), painting and stream channel maintenance.
Operates a variety of gasoline and diesel driven construction equipment and vehicles in the performance of bridge, highway, and facility operations, maintenance and/or construction activities.
Operates a variety of snow and ice control equipment and vehicles including front-end loaders, trucks with plows and spreaders, and tractors.
This is a NYS Thruway Authority Unit 1 Teamsters position:

Vacation, Sick and Personal Accruals.
Sick Leave is credited at the rate of one-half day each biweekly pay period up to a total of 165 days.
Sick Leave Incentive Plan – Employees who have not accumulated 165 sick days and have not used sick leave during the periods of January 1st to June 30th or July 1st to December 31st, each year, may receive two days of pay for each six-month period. Employees who have a sick leave balance of 165 days, and continuously maintain that balance for each six-month period, may receive four days of pay for each six-month period.
Employees with 20 years of continuous Authority/State service may receive up to an additional five days of vacation leave accruals annually.
Membership in the New York State and Local Retirement System, as well as optional enrollment in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
Tuition Assistance Program which reimburses 90% of tuition costs for approved courses up to 15 credit hours per year.
New York's 529 College Savings Program, which provides New York families with a tax-advantaged way to save for college.
Flexible Spending Program, which allows employees to set aside pre-tax payroll deductions for eligible health care and dependent care expenses.
Service Award Payments - Upon completion of 10 years of Authority service, eligible employees will receive a 10-year Service Award Payment. Payments are then awarded every five years as noted in the contract until 30 years of Authority service is reached. Service Awards have a positive impact on retirement.
Employees are paid bi-weekly, with no lag time.
Some positions will be eligible for downstate and/or geographical pay depending on location and title.
