TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Tidewater Community College seeks applications for part-time Custodian positions to fill 3 positions at the Norfolk Campus for the evening shift, 6:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with rotating Saturdays.
This position will provide a full range of custodial/housekeeping services for college facilities to include, but not limited to, trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, black/white-board cleaning, etc. Provide room set-up/take-down assistance and light bulb replacement as assigned. Perform other cleaning tasks as assigned. Maintain and demonstrate good attendance habits.
This position, designated as an essential position, must be able to report to work and fulfill responsibilities of the position in the event of college/campus closure due to weather or emergent conditions.
- Provides cleaning services to the colleges buildings, to include, but not limited to, daily removal of trash, mopping, dusting and sweeping, vacuuming. Must assist in the set up and take down of special events if assigned. Complies with laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
- Must be able to climb a six foot ladder and lift up to 50 lbs unaided.
- This position, designated as an essential position, must be able to report to work during inclement weather and assist in snow removal from entries and walkways and application of snow-melt when required.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards.
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping services, and sanitizing techniques.
- Ability to climb ladders without assistance.
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Skills in using housekeeping equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffers and scrubbing machine. Knowledge of safety procedures, particularly as they relate to equipment operation, chemical use, and trash/recycling.
