Job description - Counselor
Monroe, NC based Treatment Center for Eating Disorders seeking part-time to full time Counselor for the following:
- Responsible for providing support to patients and ensuring that a safe environment is maintained in the treatment facility
- Assist with admissions and discharges, helping patients transition into and out of center
- The Counselor will help prepare and consume all assigned meals with patients to model normalized eating behavior. Supervise, support, and monitor clients during meals
- Attend and assist with meal / recreational outings with clients.
- Monitor all breaks, including restroom breaks.
- The Counselor will attend and assist all groups and activities with the population assigned and may conduct psychoeducational and/or recreational groups and document
- Engage in de-escalation techniques with patients, as needed and appropriate.
- The Counselor will provide a positive environment for supportive, recovery-based treatment while maintaining appropriate, therapeutic boundaries with clients and families at all times.
- Transport patients to required appointments (as needed)
- Assist with ADL's (morning / evening) supervision
- Document shift report daily regarding patient care, progress, and concerns
- Supervise visitations with family / supports

- Qualified BA or BS degree in psychology, social work or related health field preferred
- Understanding of eating disorders is preferred

- Experience in the mental health field
- Experience with/knowledge of eating disorder population is preferred
Physical Demands:
- Ability to continuously stand or walk
- Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
