Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for an Operations Manager HBI at the Toledo, OH location. The Operations Manager HBI is responsible for working alongside the General Manager for the safe and efficient operations of all Toledo HBI departments through development, monitoring, and acting upon performance indicators with relation to safety, environment, quality, personnel, and operation processes.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Lead and promote IronUnits health, safety, and environment policies and procedures.
- Participate and improve safety audits and observations to demonstrate visible safety leadership.
- Monitor safety and environmental performance and take action on areas that require change.
- Liaise with internal and external regulatory parties on safety and environmental aspects
- Align and cascade business strategy to tangible operational drivers promoting action to optimize.
- Prepare inputs to budget and forecast models, and cascade to Managers and employees.
- Communicate changes in business plan both planned and unplanned to impacted parties to minimize interruptions to customers
- Communicate business plan to the processing workforce.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators on a continuous basis in order to gauge process efficiency, product quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Monitor progress of tasks associated with deviations and take action to achieve target completion dates
- Review and provide input of planned work scope for the short, medium and long term identifying and minimize competing interests between departments
- Provide leadership to team of direct reports, so they are clear about their role purpose, level of work, and task assignments
- Establish high performance standards and set goals to attain them
- Develop, maintain and provide input for personnel scorecards
- Coach personnel on increased performance on a day to day basis to deliver results consistent with the operational and maintenance plans
- Provide support and positive reinforcement to personnel when behaviors align with operational goals within the limits set by the organization
- Ensure team behavior is aligned and accountable to the employee performance policy
- Develop and foster relationships with key service providers in safety, environmental, maintenance, and commercial to ensure wider business goals are met
- Seek and justify capital expenditure to improve plant processes
- Act as replacement for General Manager role as required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, Mineral Processing or equivalent
- 15 years' experience in heavy industrial environment preferably steel, hydrocarbon, or mining environment
- Experience overseeing, leading, and coaching a large group of people
- Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience; Ellipse preferred
- Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Project Management Software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with business improvement tools such as 6 sigma, RCA and statistical process control
- Knowledge and experience with ISO processes (9001, 14001, 45001)
- Effectively communicate both orally and through written text
- Ability to read and constructively influence personnel in team processes
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities
- Ability to read and understand technical documents including PFD's, P&ID's and O&M manuals
- Ability to read and understand regulatory documents including API, ASME standards
- Can be sedentary for long periods of time
- Occasionally lifting up to 25lbs
- Mobility required. Must be able to handle stairs and long periods of work on your feet
- Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt, heights and vibrations, extreme climate changes /changes in weather
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master Degree in Business Administration
