TITLE: Maintenance -HVAC Technician
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND 5 years of experience working in a related field at Journeyman level OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill. Valid State of Arizona Driver’s License is required.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
JOB GOAL: Insure that the District’s HVAC and Refrigeration systems are operating efficiently and reliably by performing routine scheduled maintenance, performing necessary repairs, and conducting annual inspections.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintaining and repairing HVAC systems and components, including electrical sub-systems
- Replacing HVAC systems and components
- Conducting and documenting preventative maintenance (PM) work as required by state agencies
- Maintaining and repairing walk-in food coolers and freezers
- Maintaining and repairing small food service appliances such as milk coolers and warmers
- Repairing, maintaining, and monitoring energy management systems (EMS)
- Serves as a lead to lower level staff, which may include: prioritizing and assigning work; monitoring the performance of lower level staff; training staff on work methods and procedures; and, participating in performance evaluations
- Repairs and/or regulates District buildings, fixtures, systems, facilities, equipment, and/or grounds by making journey level preparations
- Installs, makes and/or modifies a variety of materials, fixtures, and/or equipment
- Inspects facilities, systems, and/or fixtures and ensures periodic servicing
- Prepares a variety of documentation and/or standardized paperwork, including work orders related to daily assignments; reviews and maintains specifications, drawings, blueprints, and other related records in assigned area of responsibility
- Maintains and cleans systems and equipment
- Maintains and purchases supplies, equipment and tools for assigned area of responsibility
- Performs general maintenance as part of the maintenance team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
COMMENTS:
This job requires the employee be able to check and adjust moving mechanical equipment. This job also requires a large amount of manual dexterity. The employee is also required to listen to multiple sounds at one time and pick out individual sounds
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve months, beginning salary Grade Nine on the Classified Hourly Salary Placement Schedule. Employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.
