What You'll Be Doing

JOB PURPOSE

Serve as the main contact for assigned customers, handling all project-related communication. Provide accurate time and material estimates for customer projects. Monitor and ensure high accuracy and efficiency in production through data analysis. Manage quoting for new projects and updates on ongoing work. Ensure the company meets customer expectations in service, response time, and value. Report to the Sales Manager on project status, customer feedback, and issues.

Note: There may be variations in job title of project management (ex: Sr. Project Manager), but this does not reflect a change in job duties.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY SUMMARY

  • Customer Contact: Handle all customer communications, including new work, order status, changes, and completion. Manage relationships with existing and potential customers, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Sales Quota: Strive to meet or exceed quarterly sales targets set by the Sales Manager.
  • Relationship Management: Maintain existing customer relationships and assist in expanding the customer base as directed.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) as directed by the Sales Manager.
  • Estimation: Break down design information into components, generate bills of materials and operations, and provide accurate material ordering and pricing estimations.
  • RFQs and Quotes: Manage RFQs, decide on pursuing opportunities, develop and lead quote plans, and submit formal quotes to customers. Assign RFQs to Project Managers and Estimators and oversee the quotation process for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Order Management: Handle customer purchase orders, lead contract reviews, and create necessary ERP files.
  • Production Coordination: Oversee project details, communicate with Production and Engineering Managers, and manage shipping arrangements.
  • Sales Contact: Serve as the main point of contact for sales inquiries and decide on opportunities.
  • Pricing Guidance: Direct Project Managers on pricing and margin expectations, and assist with negotiations.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide technical support during quotation development.
  • Quote Reviews: Approve quotes as per SOPs and participate in contract reviews as needed.
  • Sales Compliance: Ensure adherence to SOPs and ERP processes within the Sales department.
  • Business Development: Pursue new business opportunities and coordinate with the Sales Director.
  • Marketing Collaboration: Work with the Marketing Manager for business and proposal development.
  • KPI Analysis: Track and report on sales performance, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Interdepartmental Communication: Regularly update Engineering and Operations Managers on work backlogs and issues.
  • Sales Meetings: Lead discussions with Sales Director and Chief Development Officer on sales status and improvements.
  • Financial Management: Coordinate with the CFO on overdue customer balances and resolution efforts.
  • Team Reviews: Participate in and conduct performance reviews for the Sales team.
  • Work Environment: Promote a positive work environment and support team development and training.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the General Manager or Executive Board.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Secondary education in fabrication or machining technology, manufacturing engineering, or comparable field, preferred.
  • The ability to successfully complete training programs provided after recruitment.

Licensure/Credentials

  • Industry certification for AWS (American Welding Society), preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of experience in estimation and/or project management, in a custom fabrication and/or machining environment, highly preferred.
  • Production experience within custom fabrication and/or machining production shop, highly preferred.
  • Customer service experience
  • Working experience with ERP software, highly preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Familiarity of common metal fabrication and welding methods, required.
  • Familiarity of machining principles and general machining operations, required.
  • Blue-print reading of fabricated metal products, including welding and machining symbols, required.
  • AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks proficiency, preferred.
  • Excellent written and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse team.
  • Ability to schedule daily activities, as well as the work of others.
  • Ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

Physical Requirements

  • Vision: able to see and utilize fine work tools, computer screens; able to move through the office, production floor, and from point to point to find specific co-workers and in-house experts.
  • Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and deliver information to groups of varying size.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier, electronic identification card to entire buildings and floors, etc.) and utilize electronic ID to enter buildings.
  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 25lbs when transporting documents, printed paper, or similar items.
  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift to 25lbs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull equipment, tools, cart, office chairs, and other office equipment.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer, writing, or participating in meetings.  
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time in meetings or discussions.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around machinery and equipment sometimes on uneven indoor or outdoor surfaces.
