Job Description
Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Custodian/Janitor will be responsible for keeping assigned Torrance County buildings clean and sanitized. In addition to keeping the inside of the buildings clean, the employee may be expected to do some general landscaping maintenance as well. The employee is responsible for a variety of tasks, so being hardworking and willingness to engage in a number of cleaning activities is essential. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
~ Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.
~ Clean spills and other hazards using appropriate safety gear.
~ Clean bathrooms and stock them with soap, toilet paper, and other supplies.
~ Gather and empty trash.
~ Wash windows, walls, and glass.
~ Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
~ Perform landscaping duties such as planting and watering vegetation, pruning, fertilizing, and mowing grass.
~ Remove snow from sidewalks, and walkways.
~ Set up, arrange and remove tables and chairs for meetings.
~ Perform various building maintenance duties as needed.
~ Employee may be required to work irregular hours (including 24 hour call outs), attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
~ Inspect inside facility for needed repairs and report them to the Facilities Director Minimum Qualifications
~ Must be 18 years or older and in possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
~ High School diploma or GED.
~ Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
~ Must possess basic math skills to accurately compute costs and materials needed Functional Analysis
Physical Functions - ~ Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally (up to 1/3 of workday), from ground to waist level.
~ Must be able to lift up to one-hundred (100) pounds with assistance, occasionally from ground to waist level.
~ Must be able to lift up to five (5) pounds occasionally, from ground to overhead.
~ Must be able to stand and/or walk up to four (4) hours at one time, and up to six (6) hours per day.
~ Must be able to kneel up to one (1) hour a day with intermittent breaks.
~ Must be able to crouch up to one (1) hour a day with intermittent breaks.
~ Must be able to climb and crawl and maintain balance while using a ladder.
~ Must be able to reach in front of and overhead frequently (up to 2/3 of workday), and arms extended occasionally.
~ Must be able to twist and rotate occasionally.
~ Must be able to push/pull with arms with a force of up to 10 pounds frequently, with a force of up to fifty (50) pounds rarely, when moving furniture and other heavy equipment. Working Conditions - ~ Performs work both indoors and outdoors.
~ Temperature depends on weather conditions
~ Employee is exposed to intermittent noise and vibration factors.
~ Employee is exposed to paint and gas fumes, dust, humidity, and sewer gas odors.
~ Hazards, or potential hazards, may include lifting of heavy equipment, or falling.
