What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Police Officer (Out of State Certified) position at Town of Davie?
Under general supervision, performs general-duty police work in the protection of life and property, the prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminal suspects, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances in a designated area on an assigned shift. May be responsible for various areas of assignment as indicated in the "Illustrative Examples of Work" below. Reports to a Police Sergeant or officer of higher rank.
All applicants must:
- Possess an Associate's Degree or equivalent (i.e. 60 credit hours) from an accredited college/university, OR two (2) years of continuous certified law enforcement experience as a Police Officer or Correctional Officer OR two (2) years of service in the U.S. Armed Forces with an Honorable Discharge;
- Possess an out-of-state Law Enforcement Certification;
- Have the ability to enroll in the State of Florida Comparative Compliance course OR be currently enrolled in a State of Florida Comparative Compliance course OR possess a State of Florida Comparative Compliance certification (possession of FDLE certificate must be submitted prior to becoming a Sworn Police Officer with the Department);
- Be nineteen (19) years of age at time of application;
- Be a Citizen of the United States at the time of application;
- Be a high school graduate from an accredited high school or have a GED;
- Have the ability to possess a valid Florida Driver's License by time of employment;
- Have passed the Basic Motor Skills test (valid for six (6) months);
- Have passed the Swim Test (valid indefinitely);
- Be a Citizen of the United States at the time of application;
- Be of good moral character as defined by Florida Administrative Code 11B-27;
- Have no felony convictions;
- Not have been dishonorably discharged from the military;
- Not have an open Internal Affairs Investigation;
- Not have failed Town of Davie Background Investigation, Oral Board Interview, Polygraph or Psychological Exam within the past year;
- Not have one or more drivers' license suspensions within five years of the date of this application;
- Not have steroid usage within five years of the date of this application;
- Not have a DUI arrest and/or conviction in the last five years;
- Not have visible tattoos above the collarbone on the neck, face, head, scalp, OR on the hands. Tattoos that are deemed to be excessive shall be covered with the appropriate uniform or attire.
- Not have used any illegal controlled substances within three years of the date of this application with the exception of marijuana. All applicants must not have used marijuana or cannabis in any form within one year of the date of this application.
- Not have used any tobacco products within six (6) months of the date of this application to include nicotine and E-cigarettes.

The selection process will include successfully meeting the minimum requirements of each of the following: an oral assessment, psychological examination(s), deception indicator examination, background investigation, Chief's interview(s) and a medical examination which includes a drug screening test and physical examination.
- Pay Range: Candidates that are not Florida Certified will receive $28.13/hour. Upon completion of the course, passing the state exam and becoming a sworn police officer with the department, the annual salary will be: $70,215 - $111,470.
- Retention Bonus: A one-time retention Bonus will be paid in the amount of $2,500 upon successful completion of the probationary period.
- Candidates currently attending a State of Florida Comparative Compliance course shall receive reimbursement for the course upon successful completion of the FTO program.
- All candidates must submit a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history for every state in which a driver license was held within the past 7 years. The search date must be within one month of the date the application is received.
- If you possess continuous police experience, you will begin at a step equivalent to the years of service up to a maximum of step 3.
- With at least two (2) years of college or sixty-four (64) semester hours in a recognized college or university in an appropriate field, an additional pay step will be added to the starting salary.
