What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firefighter - Entry Level position at Town of Greenwich?
Performs day-to-day activities and duties of a firefighter in accordance with current State Statutes and local ordinances, rules, regulations, under the supervision of the Fire Chief or his/her designee.

***The Town of Greenwich requires all candidates to successfully complete a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). This test is administered by the Connecticut Fire Academy, as well as other certified testing organizations. The following are probationary candidate requirements that incorporate the minimum requirements set forth by the Town of Greenwich:
1. Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
2. Candidate must be 18 years of age at time of application.
3. Candidate must possess a High School Diploma or State approved G.E.D.

13. Hazardous materials operational level training must be successfully completed during the probationary period.
14. A minimum of National Registry Emergency Medical Responder certification must be successfully completed during the probationary period and must be maintained.
15. Employees hired shall be and remain non-smokers, non-nicotine users as a condition of continued employment.
16. Candidate for firefighter shall be required to meet and maintain specific medical and physical requirements and ability standards.
The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.
EXAMINATION:
The full examination process will consist of the following:
1. *Written Examination - 70% of final ranked score - This examination is tentatively scheduled to be administered on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and have submitted a valid CPAT certification issued after August 1, 2023, will be sent via email an invitation to the written examination. Candidates must present this invitation and their Driver's License at the written examination site.

2. *Oral Examination - 30% of final ranked score - Only the top scoring 65 candidates who have passed the Written Examination will be invited to the Oral Examination. The Oral Examination is tentatively scheduled to take place on June 11, 2024, June 12, 2024, and June 13, 2024.

Of those candidates who pass the written examination, submit a valid CPAT certification, and pass the oral examination will have the following point incentives added to their final score.
- 0.5 points CT Q endorsement on driver's license
- 1.0 points Commercial Drivers License (Cannot claim CT Q Credit)
- 3.0 points Current valid Greenwich Red Entry Tag Certification at time of Oral Examination
- 5.0 points Current valid Greenwich Yellow or White Entry Tag Certification at time of Oral Examination
- 0.5 points NREMT EMR Certification valid at time of Oral Examination
- 1.0 points NREMT EMT or Paramedic Certification valid at time of Oral Examination
- 0.5 points Fire Officer I*
- 0.5 points Pump Operator Certification*
- 0.5 points Aerial Operator Certification*
- 0.5 points Hazardous Materials Technician (not operational)**

No other certification documentation will be accepted. Candidates invited to the Oral Examination must provide proof of certifications. Certifications will be verified by the Human Resources Department and will have the associated points added to the candidate's final score.
Candidates who successfully complete the above parts one and two of this exam shall have their incentive points added and they will be ranked and certified as eligible to complete the pre-employment screening process outlined below. Veteran's credits, in accordance with Connecticut General State Statues, for applicants who presented their DD-214 at the time of application, will be reviewed and, if applicable, will have the credit added at this time. This "Eligibility Listing" will be established for a period of 24 months from the date of Certification.
Such ranked candidates shall be batched in rank order as need dictates and shall proceed with testing as follows:

The Town of Greenwich will conduct an extensive personal and work history background investigation which will include, but not be limited to, motor vehicle license record review, criminal record review, work history review, references, etc.

Continued employment is conditional upon satisfactory completion of the Fire Academy and probationary period.
Certain categories of Town employees (Police, Fire, Nurses, etc.) are at special risk of Hepatitis B and will be required to have a protective vaccination at Town expense or will be required to demonstrate their vaccination status against Hepatitis B.
Applicants who meet the qualifications for this position will be notified in writing of the time and place of each portion of the examination.
