Description
Creates and maintains GIS datasets for spatial data and metadata. Works closely with the Public Services team to migrate current project data to an Arc GIS system. Performs a variety of duties, including interpreting utility maps and drawings, data editing and manipulation and analysis within GIS. A GIS intern’s responsibilities include geo-modeling, spatial analysis, base map elements, and presentation map creation. A GIS intern maintains and enhances existing custom applications, perform a variety of validations as needed to maintain database integrity. GIS intern monitors, detects, and corrects errors, both graphic and non-graphic.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare utility maps.
- Perform updates on GIS Data.
- Assists with the creation of GIS standards and nomenclature for the Town.
- Distribute and visualize information as appropriate.
- Support and assist internal and external users with GIS or appropriate related tools.
- Prepare hard copy maps and generate reports as needed.
- Perform simple scripting assignments.
- Perform related office and administrative work as required.
- Integrates and aligns with organizational culture and leadership philosophy.
Requirements
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree programs such as Geography or Computer Science. Other relevant degree paths may be considered, especially if the candidate has relevant work experience.
- Must be able to work a minimum of eight hours a week.
- Must pass a background investigation with no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories.
- Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Ability to complete projects within timelines and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to research, collect, organize and analyze data and to prepare technical reports.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, medical personnel, court personnel and the general public.
Physical Requirements
