GENERAL DUTIES
This position is responsible for assisting individuals and families with referral services, providing family advocacy along with crisis intervention, and monitoring the progress of “at-risk” youth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. - Coordinates a variety of Youth & Recreation support groups (i.e. Girls’ Program, Mentor Volunteer Program, etc.).
- Provides assistance to individuals and families through information and referrals.
- Assists and coordinates with representatives of the North Andover School Department relative to youth case management.
- Monitors the progress of “at-risk” youth by coordinating their participation in appropriate Youth & Recreation services.
- Acts as a youth advocate in a variety of forums.
- Assists with the Holiday Giving Program.
- Supervises the Youth & Recreation part-time staff.
- Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
- Follows safe work practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Guidelines
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree, supplemented by one (1) to three (3) years of experience in Recreation Management, Youth Services, Social Work or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:
Knowledge of:
- Department policies and procedures.
- Community youth needs and available counseling services.
- Recreation programs and recreation management.
- Effective processes to engage youth in the community.
- The use of standard office equipment including computers and relevant software programs.
Ability to:
- Effectively promote the use of youth recreation facilities.
- Multi-task and prioritize work.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, residents, School Department employees at all levels and members of the general public.
- Exercise good judgment.
Skill in:
- Facilitating groups.
- Information and referrals.
- Crisis intervention.
- Scheduling and managing the effective use of programs.
- Oral and written communications.
- Preparing reports and making presentations.
- Customer service, problem solving, and troubleshooting.
