Salary Range

Summary
Manage the day to day operations of the Reading Retirement System and to assist the Reading Retirement Board’s investment of Assets and administration of retirement benefits, consistent with the policies and mandates of the Reading Retirement Board, pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 32, and the Rules and Regulations promulgated by the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission.
Essential Functions

- Interact closely with Board’s investment advisors, actuary, legal counsel and other professionals.
- Train, manage and delegate work of Retirement staff member(s).
- Ensures proper posting of notice of Board Meetings, meeting packages are complete, and minutes are properly recorded.
- Oversees the preparation and maintenance of all financial records, including the general ledger, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and journal entries.
- Ensure Retiree payroll is accurate and checks/advices are mailed on time each month.
- Preparation of Annual Statement and filing to PERAC.
- Calculate retirement benefits and provide counseling to members and beneficiaries.
- Oversee and ensure the accurate recording of each member’s account in the Annuity Savings Fund.
- Prepare transfers to or from other retirement systems.
- Compile and send annual statements of each member’s account.
- 1099R preparation and mailing by annual deadline.
- Respond to member requests to purchase prior creditable service, calculate the repayment of funds for the buyback and provide yearly statements to members purchasing creditable service.
- Bill and track all Section 3(8)(c) payments from other Retirement Boards.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory responsibilities over the Assistant Retirement Administrator and any other Retirement staff.
Work Hours
This is a full time position 37.5 hours per week, working 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM Tuesdays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or a closely related field; and
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible finance experience, preferably in a municipal setting or
- Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year for year basis.
