What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool & Die Technician- 2nd & 3rd Shift position at Toyota Boshoku America Inc?
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs all tasks in a manner which constantly meets or exceeds Standard Performance Levels.
Adheres to all TBDN Tennessee Company Policies, procedures and standards.
Actively participates/supports the companies 5S program.
Performs PM on molds and dies.
Makes any necessary repairs to the molds and dies.
Utilizes various shop equipment [CNC, EDM, Grinder, Lathe, etc.] to make parts and repair the molds and dies.
Inspects new molds to insure specifications are met.
Modifies and re-designs molds for improved quality and production efficiency.
Works with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and any other departments to effectively manage and complete tasks
and projects.
Provides training, leadership and guidance to tool & die apprentices and set-up technicians.
Makes requests for any necessary parts, equipment and tools.
Maintains machine shop, equipment, tools and work area in a clean, organized and professional manner.
Maintains the proper documentation and record keeping.
Willingly performs any other duties that may be requested or assigned.
SKILL FACTORS:
Education/Training
Formal Training:
*High school graduate or GED.
*Successful completion of the TBDN Tennessee Company Tool & Die Apprenticeship Program or a minimum of a two-year technical degree plus satisfactory completion of in depth mold tests in all areas.
Experience:
*If not progressing through the Apprenticeship Program, a minimum of 4 years experience in a directly related field such as a commercial or industrial fabrication/machine/metal shop, tool maker, or mold & die repair.
OJT/Job Knowledge
*The Tool & Die Technician should be able to achieve standard performance levels in the following areas within eighteen months to two years:
*Extensive machining skills including: welding, grinding, lathe & mill work, operation of EDM and CNC machines, etc.
*In-depth knowledge of Tool & Die Design, Tool & Die Making, and Tool & Die repair.
*Understanding of mold dynamics-heaters, thermocouples, water and air cooling systems, hydraulic cores, “special” metals, and flash repair.
*Basic understanding of the various properties of plastics used in production.
*Working knowledge of Technical Math.
*In-depth troubleshooting skills.
*Reading & interpreting blue prints, equipment manuals, schematics and drawings.
*Trained on crane and pallet jack operations.
*Ability to communicate and document procedures and maintain records & logs.
*Working knowledge of intricate measurement devices and procedures.
*Able to follow all pertinent regulations, standards, and safety & environmental procedures.
