Summary: Responsible for sourcing, researching, qualifying and developing new suppliers, negotiating cost of mechanical and electrical goods and maintaining part inventory and data entry of accurate information into the MRP system by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Under minimal supervision develops and selects reliable sources. Purchases the right quality goods and services at the best price meeting production and customer’s commitments.
- Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination with manufacturing, engineering and suppliers to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
- Expediting of orders to meet changing demands in Production
- Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities; advises company activities with concurrence of the Sr. Buyer and/or the Materials Manager.
- Works with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics, and inventory control; negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from the Sr. Buyer or the Materials Manager for assigned responsibilities.
- Liaises with suppliers to resolve quality and delivery issues.
- Visits suppliers’ facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems.
- Prepares and maintains market statistics such as price information and delivery trends.
- Responsible for preparation of complex bid analysis, developing new sources of supply, and keeping a constant awareness for the need for new products and methods which will benefit the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Individuals must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills: AS400 MRP/Inventory software or experience in a MRP/ERP software, MS Office software (basic knowledge or pivot tables), and technology driven communications.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: APICS, C.P.M., CPSM, or equivalent certification preferred
Other Qualifications: Must be willing to travel as required to meet suppliers and/or go to trade shows.
