GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, provides general mechanical assistance to the other mechanics, and/or operates fuel truck, grease truck, and services buses at school sites. Reports to the Transportation Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Repairs improperly operating automotive equipment.
Performs preventative maintenance on automotive equipment.
Performs monthly inspections.
Operates fuel truck and changes tires on buses as needed.
Operates grease truck and services vehicles at school sites.
Switches out buses at school sites.
Assists with body and paint repairs.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Makes wrecker calls as needed.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and three years of experience in repair and maintenance of automotive equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently. Must be able to move relatively heavy objects and perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Physical demand requirements are for medium to heavy work.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics of things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.

Other: Must have Class (A) CDL license.

Ability to acquire skill in the performance of increasingly complex duties relating to the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment.
Some knowledge of school bus and vehicles operation and maintenance.
Skill to perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance, tire replacement and vehicle body repair.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to physically perform most repairs.
