Position Summary:
The Director, Medical Affairs Excellence & Strategic Operations will lead and manage Global Medical Affairs (GMA) operational activities to ensure alignment and organization across multiple stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate is someone with excellent project management, organizational skills, and experience building/managing large operational budgets. This role is responsible for leading the organization and execution of major medical affairs initiatives and tactics within the assigned therapeutic area.
Responsibilities:
Global Medical Affairs Strategy & Operations
Brings project management and process expertise to execute the Medical Affairs Strategic Plan and ensures alignment across multiple stakeholders.- Develop, lead, and facilitate medical strategic planning in partnership with the Executive Director, Medical Affairs Excellence and Strategic Operations.
- Serves as project management lead for functions within Global Medical Affairs.
- Organize and lead operational team meetings.
- Create, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that ensure GMA activities are executed in accordance with compliance requirements.
- Create/update relevant SOPs, working practices, and forms in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts. Track documents as needed, ensuring audit readiness.
- Lead departmental initiatives to support ongoing process improvement.
- Accountable for meeting budget objectives, projects goals, and department priorities.
Budget Management
Responsible for drafting annual budget as part of the Medical Affairs strategic medical planning cycle in partnership with GMA Leadership Team (GMALT).- Serves as primary contact for Finance department within GMA.
- Owns monthly accrual processes as well as reconciliation/close-out, overseeing proper data entry and reporting.
- Responsible for working with Operations team to ensure overall tracking of the budget within GMA.
- Ensures budget status is communicated to GMA functions in a regular cadence.
General Activities
Drives the evolution and development of GMA project planning and monitoring tools.- Serves as expert for Operational Excellence and key driver of process improvement within Global Medical Affairs
- Accountable for meeting budget objectives, projects goals, and department priorities.
- Facilitates effective team communication and project management.
- Organizes content within Teams and SharePoint to promote GMA Operational Excellence.
- Coordinates and prepares logistics for meetings with internal teams, including tracking and follow up on actions from these meetings and other projects.
- Charters, leads, and executes cross-functional projects required to achieve organizational objectives.
- Leads evaluation of operational issues, identifies target areas for improvement, and leads solution development and implementation.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Advanced scientific degree (i.e., PharmD, PhD) and 6 years of project management or medical affairs experience OR Master’s Degree and 8 years of project management or medical affairs experience. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.- Demonstrated excellence in budget oversight and financial excellence.

- Excellent planning, project management and collaboration skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and manage complexity.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Successful record of creating and managing complex project plans, timelines, budgets, and critical paths.
- Ability to adapt to modification and changes to project plans, demonstrating flexibility to implement new strategies and tactics to accommodate these changes.
- Ability to travel up to 10-20%
- All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Compensation: Our competitive compensation package includes a combination of both cash compensation (base pay and short-term incentive) and long-term incentive compensation (company stock), designed to recognize, retain, and reward employees.
Target Base Pay Range:
$170,000.00 - $225,000.00- This information is current as of the initial date of this job posting and may be modified in the future. The actual pay determined for an individual will vary based on job-related factors such as location, relevant prior experience and/or education, particular skills and expertise.
