What are the responsibilities and job description for the Designer I – Power position at TRC Companies?
TRC is a global consulting firm providing environmentally advanced and technology-powered solutions for the oil and gas, power and infrastructure industry. TRC has over 6,000 employees in over 150 offices globally, including Canada, China and the UK.
TRC is currently interviewing for a Designer I (SUG) for our Power Division in our Richmond, VA office.
Position Overview:
Designers take all field notes, pictures and measurement data to complete two designs, an overhead removal plan and an underground installation plan. The overhead removal plan shows all existing lines and equipment that is to be removed from the poles. From this plan an NJUNS (National Joint Utilities Notification System) ticket is drafted. This ticket notifies all other users that may be on the pole that Dominion will be removing their lines. Once the scrap plan is completed it goes through an extensive quality control checklist to ensure the plans are accurate and complete. On a parallel track with the QC process the underground design is started.
Using the field notes, pictures and measurement data along with the power pole measurements the designer completes the underground design. Since the design process is started when 50% of the easements are acquired it may be necessary to redesign the underground plan in the event an easement is rejected.
We work closely with the right-of way team to find an alternative route and adjust the easements to that. Designers will be in their field on average 30-40% of their time to speak with customers about the project and all that is involved in construction along with taking all the notes/pictures and measurements.
