What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reactor Operator - RST position at TRCC?
We are currently hiring for a reactor operator in our soap room who will make batches of surfactants, polymers and dispersions from batch tickets, load trucks, package materials, drive a lift truck as needed to move raw materials and totes around the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Employee must pass a fitness for duty test, drug screen and submit to a TB test on a post offer employment physical.
- Proper labeling of drums, bags and super sacks
- Ensure that quantities are in line with batch ticket
- Work on a mezzanine that is approximately 12 feet off the ground with safety rail
- Climb industrial stairs (open in back) with handrail to mezzanine surface
- Receive and review production schedule from Production Manager at the start of shift
- Review production Batch Sheets and SOPs prior to beginning each batch
- Pull samples from vessels and sample port for lab analysis
- Ensure equipment is clean and prepared to operate
- Verify reactor integrity and cleanliness
- Report any issues with equipment in a timely manner
- Verify inventory levels to ensure there is adequate inventory available to produce batch
- Stage raw materials according to specifications
- Produce Batches
- Actively monitor batch process via monitors and adjust controls, temperature, pressure, vacuum, gages as necessary. Address and report any deviations or concerns in a timely manner
- Visually inspect equipment and notify maintenance department and supervisor of issues that require attention
- Upon each batch completion ensure the equipment is clean and ready to be used for next batching process
- Ensure Batch Sheets are completed properly, by recording raw material name and lot number(s) used, temperatures, pressures, vacuum involved in processing material, time for each processing step, time for QC approval, batch yield (pounds produced, and packaging), volume of waste generated and review for accuracy and quality
- Document and report any batch issues and/or concerns in a timely manner
- Maintain process area and general work area organized, clean and free of safety hazards.
- Follow company policies and safety guidelines at all times, including the use of PPE
- Report any safety hazards and/or concerns in a timely manner
- Crosstrain when assigned and if not assigned, when time permits, and approval is received
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have the ability to understand and apply safe handling procedures of all materials used in a production area, and ability to understand SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and batch sheets
- Must have the ability to apply general understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions
- Must have basic computer skills and the ability to navigate through multiple screens effectively
- Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and compute ratio, rate, and percentages
- Must be able to handle pressure and think clearly in all situations
- Must be organized and able to multitask effectively
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely
- Must have initiative and the ability to work in a team-environment
- Lift truck experience or the ability to learn to drive a lift truck
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, preferred.
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of previous experience in compounding or reactor operations working in a production manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, climbing steps, working at heights greater than 15 feet on a mezzanine.
- Ability to lift up to 55 pounds while lifting, pushing, or pulling.
- Ability to pass a respirator certification and wear appropriate respiratory protective equipment as necessary.
- Work in an uncontrolled environmental setting where temperatures can be extremely cold, hot or humid depending on the outside temperatures.
- Work in an environment where there can be unexpected, sudden loud noises, beeping backup alarms, flashing lights and sudden movements.
Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Occasional overtime required as business needs dictate.
- Work environment is on site. Remote work not offered for this position.
Pay
- $18.00 to $24.00 per hour based on ability and experience in a related field.
